Does that mean I can use a 16 g sd card with it (its an r4 for the NDS)?

FAT16 is an older file structure that was made famous by MS-DOS. It limits the size of the device to 2GB. FAT32 was an extention of FAT16 and can go up to something like 4TB.

If it supports FAT32, any MicroSD card will work.

FAT16 and FAT32 are methods by which the sd card is formatted for data. They are older types of formatting. XP and Vista now use NTFS.

You should be ok though with any SD card as far as I'm aware.

it's merely the method of formatting the micro sd card has, I have yet to see one that wasn't formatted in one or the other out of the box.

As for whether your R4 can support 16Gb you will need to look on the box. If it says it will support above 2Gb cards then you should be fine. the problem is that the older R4 cards don't support sdhc and the newer ones do.

this means when you buy the SD card you have to FAT16 or FAT32 format it. after that it should work fine. i would recommend buying your electronics from www.dealextreme.com i buy mine there and they work flawlessly!
