Grand Theft Auto V PS3 issues (freezing, Crashing, Not loading.)?

Okay so I bought GTAV disc for the ps3 on launch day . I was able to play the game without any issues for at least 2 days. I had to restart the game once afterward. When I reached the mission that introduced Trevor's Character I started having major issues. The game would just freeze up during mid play. I quit the game and ran it again and it would not load past the story mode loading screen. The images of characters that would normally change during the loading screen just remained on one image and the story mode would not load. At one particular time i tried to start the disc from the XMB and got an error stating the disc could not be loaded. When i was able to get the game going again, I was unable to get very far without it freezing. I decided to take some advice off blogs and went through stored all my saves to an external drive, deleted the save data utility for the game (8gb). Reinstall it and i was unable to play pass the first mission. I did the file restore and reinstalled the data utility for the game (8gb) and was able to play for a short period of time before the issue came up again. I have over 100gb free on my 120gb PS3 slim.

I have looked up Rockstars problem solving, contacted them and they emailed me a troubleshoot of all the procedures I have already followed above. If there is anyone that can give me some advice in what to do to solve this I would greatly appreciate it. I feel like its a waste to have bought a game for $65 to be told I need a new console when all my other disc based and digital base games work perfectly.

from what I've seen there are hundreds of ps3 owners (including myself) having this problem only with grand theft auto 5. And Rockstar also gave me a list of troubleshooting answers none which worked before telling me my system was bad even though there is no problem with it. Switching the game for a new copy also had no affect and the employee at best buy told me many people have been exchanging their copies and asking for refunds it appears we will have to wait for an update and pray they can fix it. This is the first problem I've ever experienced with a rockstar game and they don't appear to be handling it well.

I have a similar problem. Finish the first heist, then get to the the point of getting in Trevor's jeep. Start driving towards the destination point, and when the large billboard comes into view the game freezes and the whole ps3 crashes. I've been able to get to the destination by turning left at the start and going by an alternative route. Threaten the bike gang, etc. then when following the bikers to take them out - game breaking freeze / ps3 hard reset. I'm going to get in touch with the retailer I bought the game from and rockstar games. It's not a hardware issue since I can recreate the crash at will, and bypass it also until it's inevitable that you can't. Will try to explore the same area and see if it happens without the trevor story, if it does crash it might be faulty ram, if it doesn't then it's bad software development / faulty disc. Let me know if this scenario is the same for you.

I'm having the same issue. The game crashed the first time at the end of Franklin's mission. Eventually I got past that, and the game ran perfectly right up until Trevor's first mission, then it would crash without fail when chasing the bikers.

After deleting and reinstalling the game data, I managed to complete that mission, only for it to crash shortly afterwards around the same area. None of the suggested fixes (including file restore/rebuild database) worked, so I decided to take a gamble and do a full restore on my PS3.

It did not pay off. Now it *always* crashes at a certain point during Franklin's first mission, while racing the cars. The game is completely unplayable. Deleting game data, disabling internet etc etc has no effect whatsoever.

I have contacted Rockstar about it, and got the usual response with a list of fixes, and from the wording of the reply I doubt they even read my message. After messaging them again, all they could advise was that I take advantage of their warranty and get a replacement disk.

Given that it always freezes at a certain point, and other people are experiencing crashes in the exact same places, this is obviously not an issue with my hardware. Maybe some older consoles can't handle the game, but that's on R* to have realised that and informed customers before they bought the game.

At the moment, it looks like my only choices are to get a refund, or cross my fingers and hope for an official patch.

Very, very disappointed. I, like many others, have been waiting years for this game, and getting to play it for about 2 days and then having it break is in a way even worse than not having played it at all.

Mine keep freezing too, audio crashes (lose radio stations), lose map, freezing from loading screen, crashing when i arrive at mission start point etc; all of which got much worse when Trevor character introduced.

Yet my console plays RDR, other GTA's fine and movie no probs, so know there isn't an hardware problem.

GTA seems to be freezing on the 60G and 20G models. I have an 80G and it has not frozen yet, but I am having other major problems, like the game now not loading at all, even after playing it for 4 days straight and it working fine. DON'T take the game back as it is not the game, but a Rockstar issue. Rockstar has not contacted Sony yet about fixing the problem, but I'm sure Rockstar is working on it as there are a few problems that us PS3 owners are having.

Just guessing they expect us to buy a new game system because the released a faulty product, because, I am having the same problem and that is what everyone is telling me to do. But, I don't have throw away money if you know what I means playa.

I have the same problem as well

I think it freezes when we are about to explore a new part of the city. This might be an error due to heavy graphics of the game.

Whatever it is ,I hope Rockstar gives out a patch in a day or so to keep their image high in our eyes.

But surely its a blunder from their part

Same for Xbox people too. I have an original 1st gen console and thousands of other people are having similar problems. This isn't just a singular console issue this is a multi-console issue. From what I've heard this might mean you need a new PS3 (and, me a new Xbox 360) I hope this is a software problem which, if that case can be fixed. But, if this is hardware based, yea... just get your $60-$65 back form BestBuy and press on or, wait for a patch like I am. Come Tuesday (10/1/13) I will be looking for word on a patch. If not I'm returning my copy of GTA until further notice.

I hope this gives you a little more insight to the situation...

I had the same problem. I got a PS3 and GTA 5 recently and was all ready to get my game on. After completing some 20 % of the game it froze on the exact same spot everytime I tried to complete a specific mission. I've spend some time researching what people have done, and there's not a lot of answers out there. I finally figured out something that worked for me. It's quite simple. Under the "game" category in the PS3 menu is "Game Data Utility". In that folder there is to files associated with GTA5. One of those is approximately 8 GB (the install file). I deleted that (this does not delete any saved data from your game progress). Then I started the game again via the disc. It reinstalled and bam. I got to play my favorite game again without any freezes. Hope it will help some of you guys.

Its possible you got a bad disc, try returning it for another copy because what you described should have done it, also sometimes a console has issues with one game and not the others so it actually could be your console, I had a Playstation 2 that wouldn't read a game I had so I tried it in another and it worked fine, the whole time I thought the disc was junk, it also had issues reading some DVD's and other times it didn't, if it is your console this could happen to every game you try to play in the future and only get worse, try getting another game copy first, then if that doesn't work then it's gotta be your console

add my name to the list of having this problem. It is not my console and this is the only game that does this. I hope they find a fix soon. very very upset with this.

wow!! thought it was just me. i guess it's just a matter of it being a waiting game. every ps3 owner knows that when psn fixes 1 problem, they create 30 more lol
